Organize! Utility Program

Organize! Utility Program
Updated 9/28/2003

Announcement: Organize! has been rated at 4 stars by Ziff-Davis's software library! Organize! got it's 4-star rating at version 1.3.2. Version 1.4.0 is available now.

Organize! is a utility program that you can use to manage documents, files and applications for a particular topic. When the program opens, you are presented with 15 customizable buttons, a text field for notes and a tree view whose items you can associate with any file on your computer.

Once the buttons and tree view are programmed, you can save the setup under a topic name, and recall that topic when you want. Clicking a button will launch the document, file or application that you have associated with that button. Double-clicking an item in the tree view will launch the document, file or application you have associated with that item in the tree. To help you quickly find the button you are looking for, you can add a label or a picture to the buttons, too.

On the tree, you can create any number of folders and subfolders, and within the folders, you can add items corresponding with items on your hard drive. This allows you to organize your files logically without moving them on the hard drive. Perhaps there is a file that you would use for several different topics. Simply include it several times!

Since you can save the setup under a name, you can have a setup for face-to-face gaming, one for play-by-e-mail campaigns, or even one for work! This allows you to distribute a set of files with their own Organize! setup, such as a distributed troubleshooting guide.

Organize! is a flexible tool that helps you track your files, and use them more effectively, instead of forgetting that you have them on your hard drive somewhere.

Version 1.4.0 changes the following:

Changed HTML Directory View: Removed extra window that asked for the directory you wanted to view, so that now the file dialog comes up as soon as you select the HTML Directory View menu item.
Fixed bug where it would put in a line break whenever it encountered a comma.
Changed the resulting file list to be in alphabetical order.
Fixed bug in text file box so you can now safely enter quotes, commas, leading spaces, and other special characters.
Added the Options - Preferences dialog box that: Allows you to select a default setup to load when Organize! starts
Allows you to choose whether Organize! minimizes when it launches a file.
Added more error trapping so the program crashes even less.
Added "Organize" to the message that asks if you want to save the setup.

Patch #1.3.2 changed the following:

Changes the way programs are called to bring up files to be more reliable with all file types. There were problems with opening files that had spaces in the file name, then problems with opening files that had quotes in them.

Patch #1.3.1 fixed the following:

Changes the help HTML file made so that blaklite.gif is no longer needed.
Fixes the problem where file names that have spaces in them would not open properly.
Added HTML Directory View functionality

Patch #1.2 fixed the following:

Adds blaklite.gif to your application directory so the help file is no longer light blue text on a white background (ouch).
Fixes the problem with new folders (invalid ID)

Patch #1.1 fixed the following:

Error 91 encountered if you try to do New Entry or New Folder from the Tree menu without first highlighting something in the tree.
Error 9 encountered if you try to do Delete from the Tree menu when the first item is highlighted.
Were able to close Organize! when the Open window was open, leaving the Open window on the screen (eventual crash).
The program didn't actually save the settings you had made unless you did a "Save As" first.

Many thanks to Timo Reimann and Bruce Gulke for catching these bugs and working with me to fix them! If you notice any bugs with my software, please don't hesitate to let me know about them. I will try to be as responsive as possible, to make this product better.
