The Staff of Holl was a staff created and enchanted by Holl, a mage on Kolos. The shaft of the staff is made of grey oak, which was rubbed with oil of timelessness. The crystal on top is a crystal ball of deep blue color, with the additional power of being telepathic, which is attuned only to Holl. The feet are that of a pure white rat, which were magically made able to resist fire and heat, and dipped in molten mithril. The rings surmounting each end were forged of pure white gold which Holl personally found and oversaw the mining of. These were forged under a full moon. The "claws" holding the crystal ball atop the staff are opals which were shaped via polymorph to hold the crystal in place.
Once constructed, the metal embellishments were added. Made of mithril, these twisted bands of metal run the length of the staff, but do not protrude in any place.
The staff's dimensions are: 6'8" total length. The shaft is 2 1/2" in diameter and is hollow, allowing for up to four wands to be stored within. The crystal ball is 6" in diameter, and the "feet" add 1 inch to the staff.
The crystal ball, ring and claws can detach, making a crystal ball on a stand, by holding the staff just off the ground and speaking the command word, "Tsachory." To retrieve the crystal ball, the command is "Faenos." These command words are believed to be the names of Holl's nephews.
If the staff and Holl ever separate, the staff will teleport back to Holl within 48 hours. All spell effects from the staff are considered to be at 14th level.
The staff can perform the following spell functions once per day: Improved invisibility, Dispel Magic, Item, Rope Trick, and Teleport.
The following are always available: Detect magic, Read Magic, Continual Light (from the Crystal Ball, on command), and Feather Fall.
