From: Paul, Brett Subject: Bamf [29] Conversation with Steve Saif reaches out to shake Steve's hand. Steve shakes Saif's hand (and any others offered). "You have no idea how pleased we are to meet you, Steve." He looks over and nods at Dana, doing a quick double take when he realizes that more than the names are the same. Steve follows your gaze, and does the same double take as you, in the other direction. "The ones on the Island with the lighthouse seem to have disappeared", states Brady entering the conversation. "Did you know them? Do you maybe think you know where they went?" Distracted from the similarities between Dana and Dana, he looks to Brady and asks, "Disappeared? How do you know?" "That is where we.... started here and they we not there? "That iz disturbing. They were the link among us. They would bring news on our progr... er, on our keeping in touch." Saif: Turning back to Steve he asks "I take it then, that this is not Earth? Steve shakes his head sadly. We just arrived here a few days ago, each of us individually brought here by strange flashes of light. "Ah, de Sphere brought you. Yes... That exp..ah. Yes..." "We are lost, confused, and, I believe, caught up in some kind of huge and dangerous game. Anything you can tells us about this place, this world, would be much appreciated." Steve nods, understanding your awkward position, but not yet offering much information. "I can gif you a place to stay, to get your bearings, and what help I can. Maybe if you can tell me what you've found so far..." Saif grimaces at the mention of Medizar. "Yes, we have already ran into that one... twice. He mentioned something about us traveling to his fortress across a great desert. Is he from Earth? What can you tell us about him? "Medizar is pure evil. He never appears to you in person, but relies on his 'tricks' to show himself. Then, he tries to capture your mind with more tricks. The good news is he cannot attack you every day. Even he needs to rest his powers." "We noticed his image on several coins we were given." "His image on coins? Do you still have the coins? Can I see one?" Saif asks "Steven, when you arrived here did you develop any strange... abilities? Things that on Earth would be considered magical powers?" He looks at you questioningly, then says, "Of course not." His answer is hesitant. As he talks more and more in English, his German accent begins to fade away to the background. As of yet, neither of the Dana's have spoken. - Brett ---------- From: gdinkelm@ccs.lmco.com[SMTP:gdinkelm@ccs.lmco.com] Subject: Re: Bamf [29] Conversation with Steve > From Brett_Paul@kne.com Tue Oct 28 15:49:21 1997 > >Saif reaches out to shake Steve's hand. > > Steve shakes Saif's hand (and any others offered). I can assure you that we're not trying to help Medizar. If we can, we'd like to kick is vampire-butt completely off this world. If you can help us, we'll do anything we can to keep you and your family out of danger. If you can't, Medizar might, just might, be able to accomplish what he wants and get his freedom. I'm not sure if he means freedom from his tower or from this world. I wouldn't want him free to roam the worlds as much as I don't want this town to become his personal banquet. "First question: Is the geography the same as our Earth? This place resembles the Carolina coast an awful lot. Do we just have an alternate history? Anything that can help here would probably speed us up. "Second question: What are the other refugees from our Earth trying to do? Did you all arrive at once, like we did? What did the people on the island maintain record of your progress toward? "Third question: Have the members of your group developed any form of paranormal power. So far, all of us have. I'd find it odd that none of yours have. "Fourth question: What was the significance of the plaque on the lighthouse? "Fifth question: Who is Medizar? What is he striving toward? How can we stop him?" I settle back quietly and watch him for reactions. If he's not going to help us, he's going to get the feeling that I don't trust him. "Sixth question: Do you have any form of textbooks in this town? Physics, Chemistry, Biology?" What type of information where they able to give you?" -Brady Blurts out, then realizing that he was withholding information on purpose and just straight questioning probably will not get it, he then shuts up and hopes that others with a little more tact can acquire the information desired. He will study both Dana's to see how far the similarities will go. 'Hey Dana, looks like you got relatives here....' "So is Medizar human? Can we reach him and challenge him? I don't like people playing with me, nor do I like evil people..." If information does not get volunteered about what progress he is talking about and how the sphere explains anything, I will ask him straight forward. Otherwise I will wait for someone to try applying a little tact to be less blunt. No my forte. As of yet, neither of the Dana's have spoken. Hearing all that is said as if everyone is in another room (ie it registers in my brain but I'm not actively participating), I walk slowly over towards the girl, trying not to frighten her. "Hello," I say, smiling slightly and acting friendly but not being too pushy. Looking closely at her without seeming to stare, I look for familiar things - a mole in a particular place, and slightly mishapen eyebrow, a scar, etc, to see if it is really "me" or someone that looks like me. "Have you lived in this town long?", I ask, hearing remotely that Steven is from elsewhere and wondering if this girl is from "earth" or from this world. Glancing about the room, assuming this is a part of their home rather than part of the store, I look for anything familiar or indicating similar interests to my own. (If she hasgrown up here, she may only speak this german dialect, so I'm hoping that she can even speak English.) Dana - the older one ---------- From: John D. Mine would be among them. > "That iz disturbing. They were the link among us. They would bring > news on our progr... er, on our keeping in touch." It would seem to me that this is most likely the reason whatever has happened to them...happened. Most likely Medizar or someone in his employ found out about their involvement with those...like us...and made sure that involvement was...discontinued. (Note that I'm being careful with my language here. My entire attitude at this point is guarded, and I am not going to volunteer any information yet.) > "Ah, de Sphere brought you. Yes... These 'tricks' you refer to...do you know what their nature is? Are they true power, or are they tricks in the true sense such as a magician can perform? I am beginning to realize at this point that we have given a lot of information to this man and have received little in return. I make it a point to express this to my fellow travelers when we are out of Steven and Dana 2's earshot. Given this, I will be very surprised if any of Greg's, Brady's, or my questions are answered directly, but if they are, my disposition will change. In the meantime, I feel it is my best interest to stand aloof (other than the few questions I have asked. I am especially disturbed by Saif's comment regarding our 'powers', and I grimace when he asks this question. However, I realize in this situation that I should have expected my fellow travelers to react this way at the first hopeful sign. I tend to be more of a fatalist, though, and suspect that we should be a tad more careful in what we say. While these folk may be enemies of Medizar, that does not make them our allies (despite the old axiom 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend'). Had I thought about it sooner, I might have given Saif a nudge before he gave too much away. Please note that given the way in which this person has been presented, the real John believes we can trust Steven. However, given that the real John has not been snatched from his home world, set upon from all sides by undead and giant crabs, and nearly imprisoned, he's a little more _willing_ to be trusting. ;) BAMF John, on the other hand, is beginning to see that there are forces at work which we do not understand and which he is not willing to trust until he does. John Proulx P.S. Have we just seen our first 'TWIN'? (i.e. are there more to come?) Just wondering... :) ---------- From: Marshall T. Say, Latin, one of the romance languages, or Arabic?" Saif also watches the exchange between the two Dana's with interest. Saif
