From: Paul, Brett Subject: Bamf [23] Out of the woods, but where did it get you? The communication gap with the men has been unwavering, despite your efforts to understand. You are being walked directly to the town. When you are still about halfway to the town, other guards (at least that is what you think they are) that came out from the town surround you as you walk. As you approached the town, you could count perhaps 10 buildings across. There is a main street leading in that you are presently walking along. A crowd begins to gather at the edge of the buildings. Still more guards keep the populace back with their arms and their swords. You near them, and see dozens of people as they watch you being brought into town. Once you enter the town, your escort becomes your protectors as the people attempt to surge against them and reach you. They are very hostile for some reason. Some begin throwing things at your small group... rotten vegetables, small rocks, pieces of half-eaten bread. Your escorts pick up the pace. You walk a block into the town. In the middle of the next block, on the left side, you see a large three-story building, probably the town hall. To the left of it, you see a hangman's gallows set up and seemingly ready to be operated. Some kids are playing on it. It has been set up between two all-white statues, one of a woman, the other of a man. Your view of the park around the gallows is obscured by the town's people, who are loud and shouting, adding to the general chaos. It doesn't help that you don't know what they are saying. The escort leads you all past the town hall building to a building on the far corner of the next block (the left side of the road, still). It is apparently some kind of office, next to what is clearly a prison. The escort leads you inside the office, and into a prison area. They put Brady inside a cell and close and lock the door. To the rest of you, they say, "Blibe vendu vilst, gay vendu vilst. Ear site o.k. hier. Deeloita drowssen zint nichtso gedoold." With a smile, they leave you in the area outside the bars and return outside. You can hear shouting outside of the people, then of the lawmen apparently trying to calm down the masses. After an hour (at least), things outside calm down and it is quiet again. [So, Brady is locked up, and the rest of you are not. The door to this room is not locked. It leads to the office that you were walked through. In the other room are two lawmen, apparently watching the place. The door to the outside is locked. The bars are obviously steel, and aren't going anywhere. The walls are concrete, probably, and possibly reinforced with metal.] - Brett ---------- From: Paul, Brett Subject: Bamf [23] The parade You see the lawman but he apparently doesn't really notice you. "He must be blind," you think. He's apparently watching for something in that direction. So, you begin wandering the town a bit, and get to the next block where the cheese shop is. You've also passed the pub, barber shop, and the coffee house. The cheese shop is across from the town hall. People seem to be gathering near there, and on the street corners, looking around, as though there will be a parade soon. After some more exploration, everyone seems to be collecting at one end of town, the end where you entered town. There are a few dozen people now, collecting there. After a while, the crowd begins to murmer louder and louder. Then, you see Brady being lead by two lawmen towards town with his hands behind his back. [This would have been more of a surprise had I not accidentally forwarded the other message on to you all. :( ] Behind Brady and the two lawmen, you see the other Bamf victims and another lawman. The lawman in the back is wielding two swords, one of which is the one Brady had before. He is holding them up menacingly behind the other members of the party. As they near and enter the town, the group of people collected begins throwing things at them. They are half-hearted in their throws, however, not wanting to hurt their own men. The group eventually makes its way to a building on the next block, obviously a jail. They go inside. The crowd gathers around the building, yelling and screaming. After several moments, a man emerges, speaks to the crowd and settles them down. Eventually, they disperse, and the man who calmed them (who was also the one wielding the two swords) walks down the steps of the building and begins walking north along the road. - Brett ---------- From: Jeff Willis[SMTP:thor@bji.net] Subject: Re: Bamf [23] Out of the woods, but where did it get you? Turning to Dana and Marshall, Saif says "Well, I guess that means it is up to us. Do we throw ourselves upon the mercy of the court and try to communicate our situation to them or try for a jailbreak? Or I guess we could just sit back and see how things develop, although with that hangman's tree over there I don't think that would be a wise idea. Personally I think we should try talking before doing anything more rash. What do you guys think?" I think if I meditate on the Latin text in conjunction with the Tower, I might be able to talk to these people." Greg ---------- From: Animalz@aol.com[SMTP:Animalz@aol.com] Subject: Re: Bamf [23] The parade I'd still like to know how well we blend in with the crowd. If we do anything overt to help our friends, we may be taken into custody as well. Then what good would we be? I'd also still like to take a closer look at the gallows and the town hall to see what info we can get from anything posted there. If we can catch the eye of one of the prisoners, they will at least know we are there and that we know where they are and the situation. But hopefully none of them will shout to us for help or anything. :) If we can overhear any talk about why these guys are being hauled in, that will help us decide how to procede. Or if we can make out anything that indicates they will be hung in the morning, we'll really know how to procede. Also, when the crowd thins out, I'd like to try to get closer to the jail to look inside through a window or open door, trying to get a feel for the layout should we decide to go in, sereptitiously or not. Just had a thought - what if Medizar shows up and uses this to get us to go along with whatever plans he has? ("I'll save them from hanging if you do as I ask.") Wouldn't put it past him to have set up the whole thing. From his appearance on the coin, I would assume he holds some importance to these townsfolk. Would be good to find out how much and what kind. I suppose the other guys won't be needing the bread right now... I'll go ahead and chow down on half a loaf. :) Anyone got any butter? (here we go with the butter thing again... :) I'll also look around for any small furry critters or dogs in the street or alley cats to potentially communicate with. Dana ---------- From: Paul, Brett Subject: RE: Bamf [23] The parade >I'd still like to know how well we blend in with the crowd. Blending... Well, you are all obviously not dressed the same as the rest of the general population. However, you do notice some that are somewhat similarly dressed (as in, not neatly, not in suits). Not a lot of attention is being brought to you, all in all. The crowd seemed mainly focused on the escorted group, and then on the jailhouse (until they got dispersed). >I'd also still like to take a closer look at the gallows The gallows are sturdily built, and seemingly ready to be used. There are notices posted on the outside of the town hall. They are written in the strange language (let me know if you take any time to read through the notices), but you easily recognize a picture (drawing) of a sword that greatly resembles the sword that Brady carried with him. >If we can catch the eye of one of the prisoners, they will at least know we >are there and that we know where they are and the situation. Either they were playing it cool, or they really didn't see you. >If we can overhear any talk about why these guys are being hauled in, that >will help us decide how to procede. One word, that you french- and spanish- speakers pick up on is "Mort," meaning "murder," as far as you know. >Or if we can make out anything that indicates they will be hung in the morning, >we'll really know how to procede. There's no rope on the gallows when you go to look at them. The windows are pretty high off the ground, but when the door is open, you can see inside. You see a wooden desk just inside the door, and a door behind the desk, apparently made out of metal. That is probably the entrance to the jails proper. There are a couple lawmen-types inside. >I would assume he holds some importance to these townsfolk. "So, do we try and talk to the authorities now? I'm afraid that once they learn we are with the same group they will just throw us in jail as well. We have _got_ to figure out a way to communicate! To bad this isn't like the Burroghs series on Mars where we could just swallow a pill and be able to speak the language." Saif's priority is to try and find something like a bookstore or library. Great, wonderful, next you'll tell me I am going to hang on the gallows. (That is NOT and idea Mr. Gamemaster!!!!!!!) If friends hang out I will tell them that they should find a way to use their powers to 1 get me the heck out of here if the need arises, and two communicate with the local populace, whether by learning their language or by other means. Let's see---I've got Latin, geometry, and genetics covered. I'm hoping the Latin will let me communicate. With the geometry I might be able to shrink or enlarge you or the bars--maybe open enough space for you to escape. Of course I could turn you into a newt and put you in my pocket. An orangutan would probably be easier, but they might freak at the orange devil-creature in their jail. ---------- From: Adequis@aol.com[SMTP:Adequis@aol.com] Subject: Re: Bamf [23] Out of the woods, but where did it get you?
