Updated 8/19/2000

On May 14, 1997, a new play-by-e-mail game was announced. It is called Bamf.

Bamf was originally created to provide a way for the role-player to play him or herself in a fantasy or science fiction adventure. In the years since its introduction in 1996, the rules have been expanded to allow the player to play not only him or herself very easily, but also to create a character and play that character much like many of the other role playing games available on the market.

The following resources are available to help you run a successful Bamf campaign:

TWINS PBEM

ATG PBEM

The Bamf Rules gives you all rules for both players and game masters, including skills, powers, character creation rules, and notes for game masters and PBEM GM's alike. The Character Sheet is updated to work with the latest rules, and has been made cleaner, giving the player more room for important notes. The GM Screen is a 3-page document designed to be printed and put on poster board so that the information that the GM needs is a glance away. TWINS PBEM was the first PBEM game run using the Bamf rules. The game is incomplete and ended, but the story provides some great examples of a beginning Bamf campaign. In this story, the Bamf Sphere visited the players in different guises and brought them into the campaign world most unexpectedly. ATG PBEM was a second PBEM game run using Bamf. This game story shows a very different, yet still effective, method to bring characters into a bamf game. In this case, the players investigated unexpected tunnels to enter the campaign.
* note: these are somewhat outdated for the time being.

While the world of Bamf is left open to the game master, the rules as presented here work well with many settings. I have specifically used it for fantasy, science fiction, spy, and modern-day settings (so far).

The new version of the rules includes many changes and improvements designed to streamline the game and improve overall consistency of the game. Among the changes:

NEW: 8/19/2000 I uploaded the latest rules set, which includes many changes to weapons and damage. It also expands the skill list, and adds rules for gaining special abilities, defining special abilities with side effects, and many other minor improvements.
6/1/2000 I uploaded the updated rules, character sheet and GM screen in PDF format.
5/13/2000 I uploaded a heavily modified version of the rules and a new version of the character sheet.
